If You Know, You Know: Crowheart Store

We’ve shared via our blog about a few places to stay, some lesser-known places to see, and a sprinkling of things to do in our beautiful state of Wyoming. We’ll keep the tips and tricks coming, but there is another category we’re eager to share. It’s the category we’re calling, “If you know, you know.” We’re talking tiny golden nuggets of info the average tourist would never know. Crowheart Store is one of those nuggets.

Located at 8526 US-26 in Crowheart, Wyoming, this is a stop you will miss if you blink. While traveling to or from Dubois, WY, driving across the Wind River Reservation, Crowheart Store is one of only a few places to stop, gas up, and/or use a restroom. It’s nondescript and unassuming. A few travelers, via Yelp, have complained items are overpriced. We respectfully disagree. Though, it probably depends on what you’re purchasing. What is on the ‘must get’ list at Crowheart Store? Handmade Native jewelry and gifts! And they are worth every penny for their intricate beadwork and the obvious skill that goes into making each piece.

Both the Eastern Shoshone and Northern Arapahoe tribes share the Wind River Reservation. Local artists provide the Crowheart Store with handmade items ranging from bracelets and earrings to horse halters, dolls, and decorative beadwork items of every variety. Inventory is constantly changing. You never know what you’ll find. It’s always worth the stop to check the display counter and see what you can’t live without. Whether you’re buying a piece for yourself or as a gift for someone else, you can’t go wrong with handmade, culturally authentic art. Once you’ve visited, you’ll know.
